The World Sensors Summit 2023 (WSS 2023), hosted by Henan Provincial People’s Government and China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), was took place at the Zhengzhou International Convention & Exhibition Center from November 5 to 7, 2023. China Mobile Research Institute (CMRI), China Instrument and Control Society (CIS), Joint Innovation Center for Passive IoT Technology, Tsinghua University - China Mobile Joint Research Institute, organized the Passive Wireless Sensing and Intelligent Microsystems - Advanced Technology Scenario Session, which were attended by more than 300 attendees from governments, industries, education institutions, academic communities and application fields. Shen Weiming, the academician of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Wang Jifen, the Vice Chairman of Henan Association for Science and Technology, and Chen Lizhi, Deputy Secretary of Zhengzhou Municipal People’s Government made speeches at the event. The keynote speakers include experts and scholars from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Tsinghua University, Peking University - Wuhan AI Research Institute, the National Research Council of Italy, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Shanghai Jiaotong University and other Chinese and overseas research institutes.

In the welcome speech, academician Shen Weiming introduced the trend of intelligent microsystems and existing technological challenges, noted that The development of intelligent Microsystems is inseparable from the cooperation of the industry. The government leaders of Henan Province and Zhengzhou City emphasized in their speeches that academic exchanges are an important source of scientific innovation, and advocated that all walks of life strengthen exchanges, inspire wisdom, and promote the development of passive wireless and intelligent Microsystems.

Zhong Hongen, deputy chief engineer of space application System of Manned space Engineering from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Anna MIGNANI, director of the CNR-Institute of physical applicate “Nello,Carrar” (IFAC), shared the needs and pain points of passive wireless sensors in aerospace, food analysis and other scenarios, and proposed targeted solutions.

Zhao Jiahao, director of the Institute of Instrument Science and Technology of Tsinghua University, introduced the key technologies and recent research progress of intelligent microsystem integration, and proposed that intelligent microsystem will be miniaturized and systematized in the future, based on advanced packaging technology, to achieve low power consumption, high density and heterogeneous integration.

Professor Wu Zhiqiang, executive director of Wuhan Institute of Artificial Intelligence, Peking University, introduced the importance of intelligent sensing and data intelligence in social governance, and the blessing of information technology such as artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, and the Internet will bring more intelligent social governance to every city.

Professor Li Jian, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, introduced that passive tags will have broad application prospects in ubiquitous perception and ubiquitous intelligence digital scenarios by integrating sensing, communication and identification capabilities.

Professor Wen Yumei of Shanghai Jiao Tong University introduced the RFI-based non-source energy mining technology, which collects the RF energy in the environment and converts it into electrical energy for the sensor to work, realizing the de-battery of the sensor terminal, and solving the industry pain point that is difficult to maintain the sensor terminal based on cable or battery.

Xiao Shanpeng, director of the Institute of Internet of Things Technology and Application of China Mobile Communications Research Institute, made a keynote speech entitled "Passive wireless intelligent Microsystems Build a New era of digital and real Integration", from the aspects of passive, wireless, integration, intelligence, etc., elaborated the direction of intelligent Microsystems reform, and introduced the practice of passive wireless intelligent Microsystems integration innovation.

At the event, the White Paper on Advanced Sensing Technology  (Version 1.0) was released, in which China Mobile collaborated with upstream and downstream companies to explore the latest representative technologies in frontier sensing and sensing fusion, aiming to better serve the industry, accelerate research breakthroughs and practical applications of advanced perception technologies.

The attendees discussed the future development of intelligent microsystem technology, products, and applications, and hoped to jointly promote the innovation and application of IoT sensors and intelligent microsystem technology in China, build wonderful industrial development ecosystem, deeply empower the digital transformation and upgrading of industries, and work together to build a new era of digital and real integration.
